Incoming President
Don Andrews' Plans
Fun, Fun, Fun is what the next year is going to be for our South Hills Kiwanis members.
I intend to plan our worK and worK our plans. With manv new chairpersons, I believe
we will have the nucleus to have a productive and beneficial year for our children and
the community.
The first project I would like to implement is to reinstate scholarship programs for our
high school and college students. We should provide financial support for Barranca,
Badillo and Grovecenter schools to assist with purchasing books and also help with their
Science Programs. South Hills Kiwanis will continue supporting the Future Farmers of
America at Covina High School contributing to the purchase of steers, sheep and pigs.
We will also continue to support the Covina Library "Summer Reading Program" and the
"Adopt a Book" program. I hope to begin a Tutoring program at Charter Oak and
Covina High School; similar to the very successful one at Northview High School that
our Kiwanis club sponsors. I would also like to install the "Very Important Pupil"
program at Covina Elementary School.
I believe there are many worthy community projects that we need to get involved in.
For example, Blankets and Bears, repairing and cleaning up the homes of the elderly
who are unable to do it themselves. I believe we can be more involved in assisting in
the Santa Clothes Program, the Special Olympics, the Boy and Girl Scouts and the local
YMCA.
I would like to place more focus on publicity for the Prayer Breakfast so that other
Kiwanis groups and the community can take advantage of this event. We can also be
more visible club by participating in the Covina Christmas Parade and involving our Key
Club in this special event. Last but absolutely not the least; In keeping with goal of
Kiwanis International, we will prioritize growing our South Hills Kiwanis club
membership. By increasing the number of members we can be a more effective club
and have a bigger impact within the community.
