South Hills Kiwanis Weekly Bulletin -- 2/11/10

The meeting was opened with the singing of "The Star Spangled Banner" led by MAC MC ALPIN. JACK FIELDING gave his usual inspirational Pledge To The Old Glory. REV. JAMES PARKER gave the invocation, and TEX WILLIAMS Thought For The Day: Father O'Malley answers the phone:
Hello, is this Father O'Malley? --It is. -- This is the IRS. Can you help us?
I'll try. --Do you know a Ted Houlihan? -I do.--
Is he a member of your congregation? - He is.- Did he donate $10,000?
He will.

Today was the Lt. Governor's visit coupled with the Interclub from Glendora, which consisted of Lt. Gov. Tony Miller, Frank Salamone, Greg Gillham, and Judy Gillham. PAST PRESIDENT ERNIE ALTVATER was also a welcome guest, and Pres. COOKIE gave ERNIE a useful tool in the form of an ice-scraper. Phyllis Strode of Serenity was also a guest JACK FIELDING thanked the club for being thoughtful.

PREZ. COOKIE finally came unglued today and tried to make up for her budget deficit. DICK BISHOP admitted to a long marriage, and paid $45.00. Then his distant relative from Canada, GEORGE BISHOP was finally nailed $100 for the honor of being named CITIZEN OF THE YEAR FOR COVINA. Even the PREZ tossed in $25 for her birthday. CAROL SCANLAN gave $10 for her grand-daughter's good looks or good grades or something, and she and ANITA WHITE both worked in the Santa Clothes program, and CAROL gave another $10 and ANITA DUG OUT $50. TOM PALMERI and MARIE both have birthdays in the month of February, but TOM gave a long sob story about having to pay thousands of dollars to get his car repaired, and I think he got COOKIE to forgive his heavy levy, but he maby have had the No Fine Badge.
The room was really decorated nice with balloons, cookies, candles and kisses, and many thanks to our PREZ and her gremlins. CAROL SCANLAN was the winner of $8, and MAC MCAPLIN won a bag of goodies with his nimber.
LT. GOV. TONY MILLER says that KIWANIS IS THE WORLD'S BEST KEPT SECRET, AND he has a license plate that says KEWANUS. DIV. 35 has 12 clubs in it now with about 350 members. Kiwanis is working on a project to wipe out Malaria. He said we should "Job Talk", and suggested some ideas for our club. I think he said that JOEL BEEZY was entitled to the Gold Coordinator Award. TONY asked some trivia questions about South Hills Kiwanis. Tony looks enough like Chuck Carpenter to be his brother. Which reminds me, COME ON BACK CHUCK!!
