Club Bulletin
South Hills Kiwanis Weekly Bulletin -- 6/3/10
Reporter: George Bishop
Our song today, in absence of V.J. McAlpin was lead by George Bishop.
He was shouted down when he began with a rousing "Oh Canada" so he
changed to "God Bless America." George did not understand this because all
that it asks for is a "Patriotric" song - No mention as to what country.
Jack Fielding gave his usual patriotic salute to our flag. 15 in attendance.
"Thought for the Day": Tex transferred his thought in commemorating
Memorial Day to Elton Chatfield who read the thought which is now
included:
GUESTS: Our Lt. Governor elect, Debbie Deal honored us with her
presence and invited us to participate more in the monthly DCM's. Also
Anita White introduced her friend Gloria Holman (correct spelling??)
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Luncheon for the Northview High School tutoring
group and Key Club was very successful and we served over 130 students all
the Pizza they could eat along with salad and cookies. Harry Anderson and
Carol Scanlan and Cookie Ford with Elton, Steve, Jan Anderson and George
Bishop served the hungry group. Left over Pizza disappeared to the workers.
Harry says he will bring excess sodas to club next week (I think he said so?)
We were informed that there is a Fund Raiser for a new Children's Hospital
in Orange County on June 12th at the Fair Grounds..! did not get all of the
details>
FINES.Only fine today was to Elton who was gone over the Memorial Day
weekend in Arizona. He said he contributed his share to Arizona's economy
and was pleased to only contribute $20 to South Hills K.for his day. For the
PROGRAM: Today, Anita came up with another one ofher games which
required a member to guess or know personal information ofone of our
other members. Gave us some insight on the members but also on how little
we know about each of us.
Memorial Day, May 31st, 2010
Always Remember
We bow our heads in silent grace;
Proud to stand upon this place,
To honor those who we love and lost;
Whose lives were taken at such a cost.
Through the pain and sorrow, for all the brave and true
To always be remembered by me and by you.
To heal the minds and hearts, ofthose who still live;
Always remembering what they had to give.
Live your lives with pride in learning what I say;
May God bless and keep you on this and every day.
