South Hills Kiwanis Weekly Bulletin -- 7/1/10
MAC MC ALPIN led the singing of a rousing rendition of the National Anthem, and the
group joined in the spirit of the day, even though some ofthe notes were a little out of
range for some of the members. Everyone clapped and enjoyed it.
JACK FIELDING appropriately led the Pledge to the Flag, and IRENE SNAVELY
gave the Invocation. TEX WILLIAMS' Thought For the Day was a quote from Mary Fosnow McHenry, who said:
"OLD GLORY-OUR FLAG -The Fourth of July was a scorcher, and the town
folk competed for shade. The children were anxiously jumping. It's hard to
await a parade. Then suddenly -everyone rose up. "The Flag" came a child's
cry. We smiled and clapped and saluted - OLD GLORY was passing by!
There was pride in the song of the choir, as they honored our soldiers brave.
While emotion gripped, I gazed at the Flag, and it gave me a gentle wave."
GUESTS included TOM POKUZA (with MIKE TANAKA), AND the speaker
BOBIHSEN.

FINES & BUSINESS - REV. JAMES PARKER showed up and paid $20..00 for his birthday. Some slight jostling between ELTON, ANITA and MAC for the FINE FREE BADGE for July, but ELTON won it with a bid of $50.00, which smells like Aloha to me.
Incidently, POKKA left early to return to "Work" after his contribution. JOHN
MORDOFF won the raffle and $4.00, and donated it back.
DON ANDREWS stated that our club has completed a Round Robin by having an
Interclub with all of the other clubs in our division. - Good Job, DON.
ELTON CHATFIELD said a few words about the KIWANIS CONVENTION that was
held in Las Vegas. ELTON said there were about 4000 delegates and 10,000 Kiwanis'
members who attended.Ret. Gen. Colin Powell was the key-note speaker. (I think that is
what he said. A more detailed report will be forthcoming-before or after Hawaii??
BOB IHSEN was introduced by ANITA WHITE. BOB has spoken to our club before,
and has visited about 185 countries in the world. BOB said he went on a tour to IRAQ,
where he took many slides of the area where civilization began, the tower of Babel, the
Tigris and Euphrates rivers, some of the monuments and palaces built by the dethroned
