SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 9/30/11
The meeting was opened with VJ MAC leading the singing of "AMERICA", followed by
KEN MILLER leading the Pledge of Allegiance. TEX WILLIAMS used a quote from his
Anonymous friend, "Mr. A", who said: Happiness is like jam, you cannot spread even a
little without getting some on yourself."
Rev. JAMES PARKER gave the Invocation.
BESSIE ANDREWS viewing is this evening from 5:30 to 8:00, and her services will be
held tomorrow. Unfortunately, this will not reach those who were not at the meeting today.
Our deepest sympathy is with DON and his family.
Well, this was "Wimpy's" last meeting, and tried to go out without fining anybody, but he
didn't make it, because DICK BISHOP was there, and DICK did not attend the installation,
so the WIMP nailed DICK for the $35.00 that it would have cost him, if he had attended the
installation. AND, STEVE SHERMAN (or his wife) was a little embarrassed for getting by
with only a $20.00 for his new Cadillac, and so he added another $20.00 to the fur-lined pot.
GEORGE BISHOP reluctantly gave up the NO~FINE badge, and the Prez auctioned it off.
There were only two bidders, namely VJ MAC and DICK BISHOP, and MAC got
away cheap with a bid of $30.00.
I don't know how that big T happened, but sometimes my computer gets crazy.
Coming Events:
10/9/11 - Lt. Gov.Elect Lon Salgren Installation - Monrovian Restaurant - 6:00 PM.
The WIMP (THIS IS MY LAST CHANCE TO MALIGN HIM) did a good job of taking care
of the BELL all year, and passed it on to IN-COMING PRESIDENT ANITA WHITE, who I
understand is going to have "Keepers of the Bell", who will be assigned by her to safeguard
that melodious bit of brass under the threat of a heavy assessment if it disappears.
Guests included the speaker, Linda Tennies, and her husband, David Tiennies, and MARGARET
CHATFIELD, whose husband is taking her to MAUl for a whole month. That ought to be
worth a whole bunch of pineapples when he gets back.
Will Rogers said: "Never miss a good chance to shut up"; and further said: "Never kick a cow
chip on a hot day;" - and "Never slap a man chewing tobacco."
Linda Tennies spoke about the Jason Tennies Memorial Foundation, which was founded after
her son, who was 20 years old suffered schizophrenic break. Early in the morning of 9/25/10,
he went for a walk and was struck by a car and killed. Out of this tragedy, Linda and David
Tennies have made a quest to dispel the all too common "shame" that people with mental
disorders bear. One in four Americans live with mental health disorders of some sort. Jason
Tennies was an accomplished guitarist. The Foundation is a Non-profit organization to
raise fund for awareness and research on schizophrenia, depression, bi-polar disorder and
autism.
