SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 1/3/08

MAC AND GLORIA led the group in the singing of "GOD BLESS AMERICA", and GEORGE GURNETT led the PLEDGE TO THE FLAG. ELTON CHATFIELD gave the invocation, and TEX ' S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY IS AS FOLLOWS:

"WHETHER YOU ARE DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN, THE MOST TERRIFYING WORDS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARE: I'M FROM THE GOVERNMENT AND I AM HERE TO HELP."

LT. GOV. MIKE TANAKA, JACK FIELDING AND PRES. ANITA ATTENDED AN INTERCLUB LUNCHEON IN PASADENA, AND ANITA HAD HER PICTURE TAKEN WITH THE KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT and the GOVERNOR OF THE CAL-NEV-HA DISTRICT. - AND - PRES. ANITA admitted she owed the club some funds for the general fund, and donated $55.00 for her accolades and sins.

WHINE FINES: TOM PALMERI paid $5.00 for his son's getting a driver's license (he should be praying); GORGEOUS GEORGE GURNETT contributed $20.00 for his 13 th wedding anniversary; VJ MAC gave $6.00 (all he had in his pocket) for a trip to ILLINOIS to celebrate his "little brother's " 60 th wedding anniversary; JOEL BEEZY gave $5.00 for the privilege of working on the Rose Parade float, and another $5.00 for being late. MIKE TANAKA gave $5.00 for being late and for the hurt that U.S.C. put on ILLINOIS in the Rose Bowl. KEN MILLER (and I think -JOHN MORDOFF) GRADUATED FROM So. Cal. in 1953, and they might have contributed $5.00 each.

DON ANDREWS introduced RICHARD K. HARDER, who spoke on the MORMON faith, which is the 4 th largest religion in the U. S. with 13 million members. Mormons are also known as Latter Day Saints, and was founded by Joseph Smith in New York, but later moved West, and settled in Salt Lake City. They believe in Jesus Christ, tithe 10% of their earnings, and do not smoke, drink or swear; they have some strict rules regarding their temples.
