SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 1/25/07
Our Prez was a wee-bit on the late side, and ANITA WHITE got things started with yours truly leading "GOD BLESS AMERICA" accompanied by GLORIA FREET. GEORGE GURNETT led the group in the Pledge to the flag, followed by DR. ELTON CHATFIELD giving the invocation.
GEORGE BISHOP gave the THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
"Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is
The courage to continue that counts."
Winston Churchill
JOEL BEEZY, MIKE TANAKA and REV. JAMES PARKER were all late! A variety of assessments were made- JOEL paid $10.00, MIKE T. paid nothing (Fine Free Badge), and REV. PARKER paid $5.00.
JOYCE CHAPMAN said she visited the Palm Springs Kiwanis on Tuesday, and she thinks our meeting and food is better. The lunch today was really good, broiled chicken with a tomato, cheese and avocado topping, with mashed potatoes, gravy and whole kernel corn. Thanks LUIS, TINA and the cook.
VALENTINE PARTY: 2/20/07 AT VILLA TEPAJEC (SP). Order from the menu. More to come.
Rev. PARKER said that Bebe FIELDING was back home, but might have to go back for more surgery. PREZ. JOEL asked the REV. to lead a short prayer for the FIELDING Family.
BERT BRANDT, A fellow Kiwanian from Walnut (?), spoke on the fact that we are living longer, and the costs of care keep going up, and that it is a good idea to CREATE FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE FOR OUR FAMILIES. The cost of being prepared is great, but the cost of being unprepared is even greater, and thus Long Term Care Insurance might be something that all of us old folks should look into.
