South Hills Kiwanis Club Weekly Bulletin 10/16/08

The meeting was opened with MAC MC ALPIN leading the singing
of "GOD BLESS AMERICA". GEORGE GURNETT led the group in the
Pledge to the Flag. The REV. JAMES PARKER gave an inspiring
invocation. TEX WILLIAMS' Thought for the Day:

"A bad habit cannot be tossed out the window;
It must be coaxed down the stairs one step at a time."
Emma Crawford

PREZ. DON ANDREWS, with some assistance from Mike TANAKA, Announced that the Board had voted to use the old "Pennies for
Pines" can for replenishing the administrative fund instead of
collecting funds for Meals on Wheels. The Club will still donate
$700.00 per year for Meals on Wheels.

The Prez called on JACK FIELDING, but I could not understand the
Prez's mumbling. Then KEN MILLER paid $40.00 for Monty's 49th
Birthday (I think that is what he said) . CAROL SCANLAN paid $1.00
Per year for 22 happy years with BUTCH. ANITA WHITE paid $10.00
because she forgot to prep. the minutes for the Board Meeting for the month of September ( She made up for her lapse of memory by
handing them out today). She tried to blame George Bishop, but I
think he was cruising -- Did we ever collect for that? And where
was he today? - A little Cow-Pasture Pool??

DON ANDREWS' wife, Reese, Is still convalescing. Our Prayers go
out to her. Don donated $10.00. She is improving.

MIDE TANAKA paid $10.00 as a tithe for winning the $50 pot.

This week was better than last week, but the mumbling wimp did not
make his budget. STEVE SHERMAN won $10.00 from the drawing.

The speaker was ROBERTA SMITH, assisted by her interpreter, who
"Signed" for her program, which is the CALIFORNIA TELEPHONE
ACCESS PROGRAM . MISS SMITH showed various phones that are
available to people, who have difficulty hearing, seeing, speaking,
remembering things, arthritis, and other ailments that make it
difficult to answer or talk on phones. She told about Lifeline phones,
Jitterbug phones, flashing light phones, and Viper phones. A very
interesting program for a bunch of old codges.
