South Hills Kiwanis Club Weekly Bulletin 10/23/08

VJ MAC led the group in the singing of "GOD BLESS AMERICA", and COOKIE FORD LED the Pledge . BILL MATTHEWS gave the invocation.

TEX'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
A MINISTER SAID: There are only two things we can give our children—
The first is roots; and the other is wings. ??????

The Prez Had to be reminded to use the microphone in order that certain old men with hearing problems could understand his mumbling. Then he made a pitch for a Fund Raiser that MIKE TANAKA introduced last year, namely selling SEE'S CANDY.
MIKE AND DON with an ad lib or two from MORDOFF indicated that we could buy the candy at $11.50 and sell it for $14.50. MORDOFF suggested a sign-up sheet be passed around next week to get a more accurate count of those who are interested.

JACK FIELDING stood up and told a WWII story about when he met and married BABE, and that GEORGE & IRIS BISHOP, who celebrated their 65th anniversary recently, only beat JACK & BABE by a short period of time. JACK paid a Century Note for that privilege of telling his.story. But speaking of BISHOP, he was absent last week because he was chasing a little white ball all over a cow pasture, and he donated $20.00. Then the Prez. finally recognized the birthday of thls mud-slinger, who admitted that he was 83.00 on October 17, and who came up with a $1.00 for
every year. MIKE TANAKA donated $10.00 because he was able to visit what is known as the Grand Canyon, but MIKE says it should be called the Magnificent Canyon.

JOYCE CHAPMAN won the raffle, and $8.00 (I Think).

GEORGE BISHOP stood in for ANITA WHITE, and introduced Brittany Salter and ED ESTES of Mt, SAC; who spoke on the growth of Mt . SAC, and told of the need to refurbish and retrofit many of the buildings. Mt. SAC has over 60,000. students now, whose ages range from 17 to 65. Flyers concerning Proposition RR were distributed which told of the needs of Mt. SAC.
