SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 10/30/08
Song: In absence of "MAC" M'cAlpin, Harry
Anderson stepped up and lead us in a rousing "My
Country `tis of Thee" Then George Bishop lead us in
our pledge to the flag.
Thought for the Day: Tex Williams came up with a thought from
Mr. Ford: "You cannot have life until you live the life you love."
Prayer: Bill Matthews lead us in our for the day.
Announcements: George Bishop informed us that he has the new
Kowchip Bingo deeds now and will distribute them next month. So
be ready to pick them up. Deeds will also be distributed to both
Key Clubs, the Covina High School F.F.A. and probably to the
Northview High School group. The Clipper Game is coming up
on November 24th. Joel has 150 tickets and we are preparing for
the buses. We will also need some chaperones for this event. Harry
Anderson has called a meeting on Monday, Nov. 3rd at Danny's
Kosher Pickle at 7:30AM. for his Sponsored Youth committee.
There also a meeting on Wednesday but I do not have the
details. George Gurnett informed that he is preparing for the
annual children's party at Arrow High School. He is searching for
a new Santa. For the Christmas Parade things are shaping up.
The parade committee has approved the F.F.A. use of one or two
animals. (calf and maybe a goat) to be in their "float" They must
be able to control the animals and more appropriately have them in
some sort of container or trailer so they will not get loose and hold
up the parade, Mike Tanaka is pushing the See's Candy certificate
sales. He deeds at least 48 orders before he will order the
certificates. The certificates (not the 1 pound candy boxes) are to be
bought for $13.50. We would sell them at a profit to go into our
Administrative account. I believe the 1 pound boxes of
Chocolates are now selling retail at $15.00
Fines: Mike Tanaka parted with $20 as an award for having his
picture in CalNevHa news. Harry Anderson celebrated his wife
Jan's birthday tomorrow with a $25 gift to the club. Anita White
gave up a $5.00 happy dollars, and Carol Scanlan celebrated a call
from her son in Iraq who called to inform that he is doing fine as a
driver in convoys - $10.00
The Fine Free badge was auctioned and our esteem president must
have something coming up in November as he kept bidding up to
$50 John Mordoff could not find his number in the pot and come
up with only $1.00
PROGRAM: Today's program was a review of our various
committees along with proposed budgets. Anita White's
"Community Service" -- summer reading plan at the City Library,
Local kids sports programs etc. We are contributing $1,000 to the
Meals on Wheel program. Harry Anderson's budget for the
"Sponsored Youth" is $4,000 for our two Key Clubs and the
Northview Tutoring program. This program has a new director and
they have over 130 tutors in the plan. We are in Divisiom 35 West
for the Key Clubs. They will have a fall rally, We were really
pleased to have Jay Johnstone at the Charter Oak Key Club
meeting a couple of Thursday's ago.. Clipper Game coming up,
South Hills Key Club has asked to adopt the Heritage House in
West Covina and Charter Oak Club will be cleaning up the quad
area at the school
MEMBERSHIP: Mike Tanaka asked when our club was chartered.
Harry Anderson came up with correct answer: 1954. We are the 5th
oldest club in this division. /We installed two new members this
year – Carol Scanlan and Steve Sherman. We need to keep up this
good work. Just ask. Meeting adjourned as Don Andrews clanged
his bell.
