SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 11-6-08

MAC MC ALPIN led the singing of the "Star Spangled Banner" even though the first starting note was just a tad too high for several of the members. STEVE SERMAN led the Pledge of Allegiance, and DR. MIKE TANAKA gave the invocation.

TEX'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Clarence Jones says: Ford Model "T" owners don't consider themselves
owners of the car. We are just custodians keeping them running for posterity so we can pass them on"
(This is a modification of a saying of a French watch maker)

COMING EVENTS: .
11/10/08 - KIWANIS BOARD MEETING --BOWL -5:00P.M.
12/06/08 - COVINA CHRISTMAS PARADE
11/24/08 - CLIPPER BASKETBALL GAME - 150 TICKETS- SEE JOEL

GUESTS: ED ROUNDTREE was a guest of DON ANDREWS, and CARLOS
deLEON, of the Metropolitan Water District, was the speaker.

PRES. DON was trying to sell raffle tickets for the Rose Bowl. It sounded so good it almost smelled like a scam, but it is legit, and really is a good deal. More to come.

JOEL BEEZY carried the pot (without donating--business is so bad), and collected $I00.00 from ELTON CHATFIELD for his three week trip to Hawaii to celebrate Margaret's birthday and their anniversary. ELTON'S son made reservations for them and a couple of their friends at the Plantation Restaurant at Kapalua, and told ELTON that the dinner was paid for, and that he had already charged it to his credit card. When
ELTON and MARGARET got to the restaurant they were ushered to a table for six people. ELTON insisted that there was only four people, and had them rearrange the table to seat four people. No sooner did he get that done, and who walks in but his son and girl friend, who completely surprised ELTON & MARGARET. The table was then rearranged for six people.

DICK BISHOP celebrated his wife Silvia's birthday with a donation of $50.00. JOYCE CHAPMAN "ratted" on KEN MILLER for something, and I think they both paid S20.00. Every person who did not have a voting stub paid $5.00.

CARLOS de LEON of the Metropolitan Water District was the speaker introduced by MIKE TANAKA. CARLOS said water is getting more expensive and scarcer. 60% of our water come from the MWD, and the rest from our local districts. WILLIAM MULLHOLLAND started the MWD. Allegedly, the water from our taps is as good as bottled water. Rain water run-off pollutes the ocean, and we water our yards too much.
