PROGRAM: Elton introduced our speaker, Brenda and she informed us
that Carl Johnson was her mentor over 30 years ago and that Elton was her
family's veterinarian almost as long. Brenda gave us an excellent
presentation of the possible pending earthquake that is pretty well a certainty
according to the Disaster Awareness Management group. When it comes it
will be a good one - 7.9 on the Richter scale and the shaking will last about
4 minutes!!! It will start in Southern California at the San Andreas fault and
move Northward all the way up past San Francisco. 5 Skyscrapers would fall
in downtown Los Angeles. Brenda continued to present the reason for
preparedness. Have a plan, some way to communicate with your families,
check for hazards at home and work - possible falling or moveable objects,
possible fire hazards (have a workable fire extinguisher) Don't panic but
protect your head until the. shaking stops. Have a flashlight handy at your
bed, a whistle, don't use your phone, filter your water (if you are lucky to
have it available (a coffee filter is O. K.) Have a first aid kit, extra batteries
for your radio and flashlight. Have a home kit and also a car kit of supplies.
These are just a few of the recommended preparedness recommendations.
Just a good idea to follow other instructions as they appear.
