SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 12/11/08

MAC MC ALPIN led the singing of 'GOD BLESS AMERICA" to open the meeting, and DICK BISHOP led the Pledge to the Flag. TOM PALMERI gave the invocation, and TEX'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

"It is better to be quiet and thought of as a fool, rather than to speak
Up and remove any doubt" Ed Graves

ELTON CHATFIELD and BILL MATTHEWS visited CARL JOHNSON at the
Brighton Gardens, and ELTON said the old codger was as sharp as a tack, but had a little trouble speaking.

TEX WILLIAMS says HARRY ANDERSON is home and is recuperating well.

COOKIE FORD arranged a wonderful evening at the Covina Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. It was a beautiful setting, good appetizers, dinner and fellowship. The Champions have done a marvelous job with the old/new theater.

GEORGE GURNETT paid $5.00 because he did not attend the Holiday Dinner. He tried to blame his wife, but no one believed him.

MIKE TANAKA paid $10.00 for USC beating UCLA in the cross-town rivalry game, and paid another $10.00 for not attending the Board Meeting last Monday. CAROL SCANLAN paid $10.00 for her birthday.

JOYCE CHAPMAN showed up in a new dress and sporting a new hair-do, and she won the weekly raffle by drawing a face card, which is worth $10.00.

ELTON CHATFIELD presented a program concerning HEIFER INTERNATIONAL, and after some technical difficulties with the sound, he described HEIFER INTERNATIONAL as a non-profit organization dedicated to ending world hunger and poverty. They pursue this mission by providing livestock, trees, training and other resources to help struggling
families build sustainable futures. HEIFER'S gifts of "living loans" offer milk, eggs, meat, wool, and other benefits to improve nutrition, health and income for poor families.

It sounds like a worth while project that we can utilize some of our Foundation Funds to help.

Thanks to JIM PARKER, he found out where GLORIA FREET is located, and a Merry Christmas card was circulated, and signed by everyone. GET WELL GLORIA! WE miss you and would like you back.
