SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 12/2/10

PRES. PRO-TEM ANITA WHITE got things started by having TEX WILLIAMS lead·the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. ANITA then realized that the patriotic song usually comes before the Flag salute. ANITA then called upon MAC MCALPIN to lead the singing of a
patriotic song, and MAC chose "AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL", and the group did a good job of singing a seldom used patriotic song.

TEX WILLIAMS dug up some saying, and I lost it, but I found one of his other sayings, which says:'

Work hard and save your money, and when you are old you will be able to buy the things only the young can enjoy.

THE REV. JAMES PARKER gave the invocation, and duly noted the service given to our country by the young men in the armed forces engaged in that unfortunate military engagement in the middle east. Thank you Jim.

Editor's note: We walked away from Viet-Nam. Why can't we walk away from the Middle East?

There were a couple of 'Projects" that were being "pitched or pushed" by GEORGE BISHOP and IRENE SNAVELY, and I made notes, but lost them along with TEX"S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY. The one by George Bishop was to help the Holy Trinity Church's fund raising project for remodeling or retrofitting the church to make it earthquake proof.. MILLIE'S RESTAURANT is donating 20% of your bill to the Holy Trinity on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, Yep! That's today.??? And the second project was a wine tasting - selling at AZO Wine Gallery on Wednesday December 8, 2010 from 5 to 8 P. M. Music and Hor Duerves (sp) 10% of all of the ticket sales goes to the SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS MEMORIAL FOUNDATION for the benefit of the Children's Hospital.

COOKIE and DON FORD are celebrating an anniversary, and COOKIE donated $20.00 GEORGE BISHOP was a $9.00 pot.

MIKE TANAKA introduced NATHAN RUSSELL of Crowell-Weedon, who spoke about the advantages and disadvantages of being a participant in the stock market. There is no question that money can be made, but without a doubt, money can be lost (my words - not Nathan's). Nathan also presented some charts and a list of some very good securities, and some of those securities have done very well for this writer. However, the first stock I ever bought was a cigarette manufacturer, Philip Morris, and if I had continued to buy nothing but that one stock over the last 50 years, I would be a very wealthy man. Unfortunately, greed controls
the stock market investor, and you look for profit and security, which sometimes makes the investor take some steps that are adventurous to say the least.
