SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 12/29/11
The meeting was attended by about a dozen brave souls, who endured the harsh winter day
in the bright sunshine of Southern California. President Anita White switched her star
players around ever so slightly, and had GEORGE GURNETT lead the Pledge to the Flag,
after V J MAC led the singing of "America", which is really the easiest Patriotic song to
sing. TEX WILLIAMS read one ofMr. "A's" famous quotes, who said:
"School in our tiny town was attended by all, who walked to school in all kinds of
weather, whether it was rain, or sleet, or snow. Mom would say: "You are not sugar nor
salt, nor any man's honey. You won't melt." Then shoved us out the door.
Then REV. JAMES PARKER gave one of his eloquent and inspiring invocations.
Speaking of "The Rev." - Did you know he drives a big~eight passenger Honda Pilot. I
used to have a big station wagon when I took three of my own kids and four neighborhood
children to Sunday School and church. I was proud of my son, Brad, who came to church on
Christmas day along with three of my grandkids and a couple of friends.
We had one guest today, Deborah Gould, who was our speaker.
Coming Events: HAPPY NEW YEAR - ROSE PARADE - KOW-CHIP BINGO AND 3/8/11 - Div. 35 of Kiwanis has a project of filling boxes full of handi-wipes, baby wipes, sun screen, razors, etc. More details to come when I get more details from the Powers-to-be.
KOW-CHIP BINGO COMMITTEE MEETING NEXT WEEK AT PLUM'S AT 8:00 A.M. THE DATE - I THINK IT IS MONDAY, OR IT MIGHT BE WEDNESDAY.
GEORGE BISHOP was giving The Rev. some pointers on how to sell Kow-Chip Bingo deeds
to anyone you meet- whether your tire man or neighbor or whoever, GEORGE SAYS:
"DO I HAVE A DEAL FOR YOU. I CAN SELL YOU ONE KOW~CHIP BINGO DEED FOR
$5.00, AND IF YOU BUY FOUR, YOU GET THE 5TH ONE FOR FREE." TRY IT - IT
WORKS, AND IF IT DOESN'T, COMPLAIN TO GEORGE.
CAROL SCANLAN'S father passed away. Services are pending. Our prayers are with you.
The WIMP tried to raise a little for the pot, but only got a couple of bucks out of Tex and Parker.
MIKE TANAKA won the pot and $10.00.
DEBORAH GOULD who runs the Village Book Shop located at 123 N. Glendora Ave., in the
town of Glendora, gave atalk about books - how they are made, and what the covers and the
pages are called. Deborah held your attention, because she was a good, eloquent speaker.
