SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 2-1-07

THE "STAR SPANGLED BANNER" was led by VJM and GLORIA, followed by GEORGE GURNETT giving the PLEDGE TO THE FLAG, and BILL MATTHEWS gave the invocation.

Members in attendance: DICK BISHOP, TEX WILLIAMS, HARRY ANDERSON, BILL MATTHEWS, COOKIE FORD, JOYCE CHAPMAN, KEN MILLER, JOHN MORDOFF, GEORGE BISHOP, GEORGE GURNETT, DON ANDREWS, CARL JOHNSON, ANITA WHITE, JOEL BEEZY, TOM PALMERI, MIKE TANAKA, MAC MC ALPIN and GLORIA FREET.

The FINE FREE BADGE went up for auction, and TOM PALMERI opened the bidding with $20.00, followed by DR. TANAKA with
a bid of $25.00, and then TEX kind of lost track and bed $15.00, but TOM came back with $27.00 and got the badge for February.

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY:

" Great is not in the world series or the world cup, It is in spring training." George Bishop

"How is that one careless match can start a forest fire,
but it takes a whole box to start a camp-fire."
Theodore Roosevelt

The Spiritual Aims Committee, chaired by Rev. JIM PARKER, wants to have a PRAYER BREAKFAST, and make it a Division 35 project. It would be or should be promoted by the whole division, and could be held at the Covina Bowl (I think), where all the DCM meetings have been held recently.

Former member, Rev. Joe Brady, passed away recently.

The KOW-CHIP BINGO was held, and attended by most of the members who attend regularly. There were two big and two little cows, and their constipation was not too bad. The Prez was present, but he left before the big plop. The gross receipts were about $4000 and the winning deeds were sold by the FFA and South Hills KeyClub.

TOM PALMERI paid an extra $3.00 for not attending, but it was not a compulsory thing. COOKIE FORD paid $20.00 for her birthday, and GEORGE BISHOP drew the Ace of Spades and won $30.00.

Diane Fonsaker (sp), a Soroptimist from ??, and the incoming president of the Chamber of Commerce of ??, spoke about a program that is associated with USC that provides assistance (scholarships) for individuals who have suffered accidents or illnesses which limits their mobility.
