VJ MAC led the opening song of "GOD BLESS AMERICA". ANITA WHITE
led the Pledge, and BILL MATTHEWS led the invocation. TEX'S Thought
for the day: "A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval."
Mark Twain
A short silent prayer was observed in memory of Addell Williams, who passed away on Monday, March 30, after an extended illness. Memorial Services are scheduled for Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Grace Lutheran Church on South Citrus, Covina.
Guests included Claudia Horn, Pat Sobzack and the speaker, Charleen Baldwin, and I believe they were all from Chapman University.
MARGIE MORDOFF had open heart surgery at Inter-Community Medical Center, and JOHN indicated that she was having some pains in her chest. I tried to call her, but the operator would not put me through
JIM PARKER had some eye surgery performed, and is also having some problems. Our thoughts and Prayers are with our friends and their families.
The Pancake Breakfast tickets were passed out in blocks of 20, which we are required to sell. That really is not many tickets. Tex used to sell three times that amount in one day.
ELTON CHATFIELD was the winner of the pot drawing and pulled a $10.00 card. Didn't he win it last week? He and Mordoff must have a thing going on.
ELTON introduced CHARLEEN BALDWIN, the dean of the Letherby Library of CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY, who presented a program on the Children of Nigeria. Charleen stated that when she was in high school, the Kiwanis Motto was to help the children of the world. Nigeria is one of the most populated countries in Africa, and HAS OIL. It is the 9th largest producer of Oil in the world. The weather is hot and humid, and averages about 90 degrees. There is no Big Game hunting in Nigeria, and
it has one of the lowest percentages of AIDS of the countries of Africa. It has about 90 universites.
The "Business" session was rather short and sweet/ JOYCE CHAPMAN paid $5.00 if JOEL BEEZY would keep quiet, and JOEL, who came in late, paid $5.00 for his being late. ELTON has the no fine badge, and everybody else was on good behavior.
