SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 4/23/09

The Southern Illinois Hillbilly led the group in the singing of the patriotic song, "GOD BLESS AMERICA". KEN MILLER led the Pledge to the Flag, and BILL MATTHEWS gave the invocation. TEX WILLIAMS' Thought For the Day: "The more you apply yourself, the better you will get". Jackie Sikes

MIKE TANAKA is calling another Pancake Breakfast Meeting next Monday at the IHOP at 7:30 A. M.?? I will be in Arkansas, and will not make it.

ANITA WHITE is having another Interclub next Thursday at the Glendora Club. The Prez invited everyone who is going to meet at his house at 6:30 A.M.

MARGIE MORDOFF is home and is feeling better. JACK FIELDING brought some 19 year old South Hills Kiwanis Bulletins to the club, with some nice pictures of a young MIKE TANAKA, and PRES. DON had some pictures of JACK FIELDING that were taken at the Trivia Contest, but since SOUTH HILLS KlWANIS got some good publicity out of it, I don't think he was fined, but then again, there was a lot of racket and I
may not have heard the assessments, if any.

KEN MILLER paid $20.00 for his birthday. ELTON CHATFIELD was back from the ALOHA ISLAND of MAUI, BUT he still has the No-Fine Badge.

THE CONCERT UNDER THE STARS tickets will be out next week, per JOEL BEEZY. COOKIE FORD is working on another evening at the Performing Arts Center. More news will be forthcoming in a couple of weeks.

DR. ELTON CHATFIELD'S program kicked out on him, and he came with a bunch of new dollar bills, which he passed out to all of the members in order for everyone to be able to follow his program, which was about all the various things on the dollar bill, and why they were there, and why they were selected such as "IN GOD WE TRUST", and there were originally 13 colonies, and 13 stripes on the flag, and 13 stars, and 13
arrows, and the Star of David.

The story behind the selection of the Pyramid and the eye in the triangle, and the selection of the National Seal is really interesting. It took six years, three commitees, and several artistic contributions; before the seal was adopted.
