SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 4/28/11

MAC MC ALPIN led the group in the singing of "THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER", and since there was a nice attendance, it sounded pretty good. ANITA WHITE led the group in the Pledge of allegiance, and Carol Scanlon gave the Invocation.

TEX WILLIAMS' thought for the day was a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, who said:
"Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent."

THERE WERE NO FINES TODAY!!! The wimp was on his best behavior, because, there were a whole bunch of guests, and naturally, I did not understand any of the names of the guests, due to this half blind, hard of hearing old man. Sooo--the next time anyone has any guests, you need to speak loud and clear, or write down the names, and then I might be able to get their names in this poorly written document.

ANITA WHITE, who is always very efficient, wrote down the names of the students who were given scholarships today. I did understand that one young man was planning on attending Tulane University in New Orleans, and since I attended one semester at Tulane in 1943, before I went into the service, I did make an effort to talk to him.

The other scholarship recipients were:
Ashley Smith of Charter Oak High
Rima La-Rabadi of Charter Oak High
Jonathan Tant of South Hills High

Glenn Martinez, the Assistant Principal of Charter Oak, and Steven James, the Principal of South Hills High School were also in attendance.

Today was a good example of Kiwanis in action, and the members who participated in the selection of the students should also be congratulated. Thanks to everyone.
