This reporter also led the group in the singing of "AMERICA". GEORGE GURNETT led the Pledge of Allegiance, and BILL MATTHEWS gave the invocation, and TEX WILLIAMS' Thought For the Day:

Wisdom is the reward you get for lifetime of listening - when you would have preferred to talk.----- Bill Nelson

Our sympathy goes out to WALT ALLEN, the mayor of Covina, whose wife passed away due to cancer on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. PAT'S Services are pending.

JACK FIELDING proudly announced that he and BABE have been married 63 years, and that today is her birthday. He also gave a cryptic message as to how old Babe is - something about 22 and holding??

JACK contributed $22.00 to the pot. Then GEORGE BISHOP proudly announced that he was celebrating his 89th birthday, and tried to con
everyone into donating $1.00 to the pot in his honor, and some of us did, and GEORGE finally gave $20.00 for his milestone of antiquity. JOYCE CHAPMAN rejoiced over the good food, and tossed in $5.00. ANITA WHITE squeezed a $5.00 bill out of her bag for being a little bit late.

KUDOS TO GEORGE BISHOP, HARRY ANDERSON, CAROL SCANLAN, COOKIE FORD AND DON ANDREWS for attending the luncheon at NorthView High School on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, for the tutoring group. There were about 150 students, and an appreciation certificate was presented to Yemina Arellanes, and an individual certificate
was given to each student. Pizza, salad, cookies and soft drinks were served.

JACK FIELDING, who was in the Air Corp from 1942 to 12/2/45 gave a brief summary of why Memorial Day was started after WWI. (My Mother used to call it Decoration Day, because that is when she went out and decorated all of the graves of loved ones who had passed away). ln any event, JACK is one of the most patriotic persons that I know, and his
glowing words are always appreciated. Then TEX WILLIAMS got up and gave a brief account of his background, which included his war experiences, and his automobile selling history. This included how he got the name of "TEX". It was given to him by Cal Worthington, when he worked for Cal (TEX was born in Maine). TEX also worked for
Clippenger Chevrolet, Longo Toyota (the world's largest auto dealer), and Ray Andrews Ford. TEX blames our present auto industry crisis on the influx of import cars. OH! For the days of 1955, when all of the car dealers were making money and selling a lot of cars.
