MAC MCALPIN led the singing of "THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER", followed by
STEVE SHERMAN leading the Pledge of Allegiance. TEX WILLIAMS gave the THOUGHT
FOR THE DAY, which was a quote from Carol Alexander:
"The Good Life starts when you stop looking for a better one."
THE REV. JAMES PARKER graced us with his presence today in a new very natty sport coat,
(that his wife picked out), and gave the invocation.

Then the Prez got into making a little money for the club. First, he nailed GEORGE BISHOP
$2.00 for interrupting him. Then he was able to pull $20.00 from REV, PARKER for his
birthday. Then ANITA said she would donate $100.00 - if she had it, but did cough up $10.00;
because she missed last week. Then the native from Maine, who is called TEX" was fined
$2.00 for his 85th birthday, and ELTON auctioned offthe FINE FREE BADGE to TEX for
an additional $33.00.
ELTON said he had run into JOYCE CHAPMAN, and she said she still wants to be in
the club, and Elton told her about the Pancake Breakfast, and how all ofthe members sold or
bought at least 20 tickets, and some paid for 30 tickets, so JOYCE gave Elton a check and had
him fill it out for $150.00. Thank you JOYCE. Elton won the pot of $2.00 and donated it.
Several members were asked what birthday the U. S. would be celebrating, and no one who
was asked knew that it was the 235th (they could do the math in their heads).
MIKE TANAKA introduced BERYL SIMMEROK, a real estate broker from Covina, who
gave an interesting talk on the real estate market.Only a few years ago, homes were increasing
about one (1 %) per cent per month, but then the values went down, and there are now a lot
of pending foreclosures and short sales. In fact, she stated that 38% of the home sales are
short sales. However, we are looking at least 2 more years of a declining market. She said
that first time buyers are now able to buy a home because of the low interest rates, that the
interest rates were the lowest in over 50 years. Interesting program.
