South Hills Kiwanis Club Weekly Bulletin
July 17th/08 Reporter: G. Bishop

~In the absence of Gloria, who is still recuperating, Harry Anderson stepped forward and led us in our patriotic song .. Pledge: Elton Chatfield followed with our Pledge and Tom Palmeri enlightened us with the Invocation

Tex Williams then inspired us with his ''Thought for the Day"" It's not the load that breaks you down, but the way you carry it" - W. E. Mooney.

We had an old friend as a guest today. None other than Lance Lewis. Lance then asked us to consider making a $150 donation to the Soccer Club. Lance apparently has adopted this group of youngsters as a coach and referee. He works in that capacity for over 100 games. Anita will call a special meeting to discuss this request.

Announcements: Elton Chatfield announced that our next Board meeting on August 11th will be held at his home. This is a resurrection of a tradition when we held our last board meeting of the year at an outside location. when we invited spouses, significant others, etc, to join us. Elton will provide the barbecued steaks and children and drinks. We will provide any other side dishes. Elton sent around a sign up sheet for us and will also send it around again when we have decided what the side dishes will be (after talking to the spouses) D.C.M. meeting tonight at the bowl.

Fines: Elton graciously parted with $5.00 after he won $50 on our 50/50 drawing last week. This was not really voluntary. He felt a little embarrassed about the $50 when he told us that when we were at an inter-club in Glendora Club this morning and they announced that their 50/50 bank was over $1,000. Joyce then felt sorry for him and contributed $20.Then there was a surge of members who conducted an auction to see who contribute the highest fine. I didn't get them all but a few of them: Elton increased his to $10. Tom Palmeri bragged about getting a discount at his hotel and parted with $5.00, V. J. McAlpin graced us with $5.00 for being late, Anita: $5;00, Radcliffe: $5.00, Joel: $2.00. The auction was going so fast, I'm sure I missed some

PROGRAM: Our Lt. Governor, Dr. Mike Tanaka outlined a few of the propositions that were passed at the International Convention . Probably one of the important ones that would affect us is the one that allows newly elected officers, including President may serve two years. There were 93 countries represented at the convention with over 3500 representatives. Bob Newhart provided excellent entertainment. (Yes, he is still alive)

Our new International President is Sylvester Neal. He is from the Pacific Northwest division. Including over 250,000 Key Clubbers and Circle Keyers and others we are on our way to our goal of a Million members. Mike then asked for those former club presidents to let us know where they attended their International Conventions. I did not get all of them but I heard places like Montreal, Toronto, Vienna, Nice, plus several around the U.S.- including the great city of Anaheim. (guess who enjoyed that one!)

Mark your calendar for August 11th and join us at Elton's for steak or chicken - 5:OO PM for the Board meeting followed by our social.
