MAC MC ALPIN and GLORIA FREET opened the meeting with the singing of "GOD BLESS AMERICA". DICK BISHOP led the Pledge To the Flag, and JACK FIELDING gave the invocation.
GEORGE BISHOP dug up some old "ASK NOTS" to show that even some presidents do a little "swishing" (or plagiarism) on occasion. You decide.
"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country"
- JFK
"We must have a citizenship less concerned about what the Government can do for it, and more anxious about what it can do for our nation."
- Pres. Warren Harding - 1916
"It is now the moment to recall what our country has done for each of us, and to ask ourselves what we can do for the country in return."
- Supreme Court Justice - Oliver Wendell Holmes -
1884
JOHN RADCLIFFE celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday at the Continental Restaurant in Glendora. There must have been at least 100 people there to celebrate with John and his family, and friends, who came from all over the country. JOHN paid $100,00 for this privilege of telling a story that I did not understand. But What Else Is New?
JOHN MORDOFF took over the chore of carrying the pot for the birthday boy, and collected $5.00 from JOYCE CHAPMAN. Then COOKIE FORD won the drawing, and drew the ACE of Spades, which was worth $40.00.
DR. MIKE TANAKA was the speaker, and presented a slide program about the Kiwanis International Convention is San Antonio. A more detailed account is set forth in the enclosed flyer.
JACK FIELDING said San Antonio has grown considerably since 1942, when he was stationed there for flight school.
MIKE T. said that the Mexicans burned the Americans that were killed at the Alamo, and that the ashes are in a container at the Alamo. Thanks for the program !
