SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 7/28/11
We got started with MAC MC ALPIN leading the "STAR SPANGLED BANNER", which was a
shade high for some of the Basso Profundoes in attendance. JACK FIELDING let the Pledge of
Allegiance, and TEX WILLIAMS Thought For the Day was that did not need a cryptographer
to interpret. Mr. Anonymous said:
"It's hard to climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets."
DON ANDREWS gave the invocation and salute to the men in the armed services.
We had a lot of guests today, and our own ladies, namely, CAROL SCANLAN,
ANITA WHITE, COOKIE FORD, AND IRENE SNA VEL Y were attending an inter-club
in El Monte.
Lt. Gov. PATRICIA CRIDLAND (sp), and WAYNE LEAVIT, KEN MORSE,
FRED HARTKOPH, and JIM ZETTERBERG, all from the Ontario Kiwanis Club made
up an interclub for Ontario.
Our speaker was HANK LAMBERG (sp) of the Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club. Hank
spoke on the problems that Sierra Madre and many surrounding cities such as Pasadena,
Arcadia and Monrovia have from fires and mudslides in particular.
Sierra Madre Community Information Radio is now on the air 24.7, and will keep
you informed of the latest information about community happenings.
Tune in to 1630 AM to be kept informed about public safety information. In the
event of a fire, earthquake, mud-slide or other emergencies. This radio station will be
operated in a special emergency mode, and Sierra Madre Kiwanis was instrumental in
getting it going.

9/8/11 - ELTON'S LAST BOARD MEETING AT HIS HOUSE - SPOUSES INVITED.
DON ANDREWS announced that BESSIE was home from the hospital.
JOEL BEEZY waved a whole dollar bill in the air, because his migh maintenance daughter is in
Gay Paree (spending the rest of his money) .. DICK BISHOP bragged about his grand-daughter's
first birthday, ;and offered to put in twice what JOEL had donated. Then JOEL DOUBLED his
donation - but the guys from Ontario made the SHK group look like pikers. KEN HOUSE ,(I
THINK) gave $10.00, and the Lt. Gov. PATRICIA also gave $10.00, and someone else gave
more than the rest of our club.Then ELTON auctioned off the FINE FREE Badge for Ausust,
and thanks to Dr. MIKE TANAKA and YOURS TRULY, WE ran Elton up to $50.00, bedause
ElTON has a trip planned to Aloha Land and an Anniversary next month. I should have had a
litttle more guts and pumped him to the Century Club.
