Club Bulletin
SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 8/11/10
The meeting was held at.the Radisson Hotel, because they were doing some repairs at
the Bowl, and The Hamilton's Steak House at the Radisson did a nice job of accommodating our
club. It was certamly dIfferent. However, we did not have the room we normally have.
Yours truly led the singing of "GOD BLESS AMERICA". IRENE SNAVELY led the
Pledge to the Flag, and ANITA WHITE gave the Invocation.
The Anonymous friend of TEX WILLIAMS provided the Thought For the Day:
DEEDS - NOT STONES - are the True Monuments of the Great.
Mark Beck, a former member, and State Farm Insurance agent was the Speaker and guest.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: South Hills Kiwanis Installation will be held on September 29,2010,
at the South Hills Country Club. Social hour is at 5:30 P. M., and dinner will be a 6:00 P.M.
The menu will be our choice of Salmon or Prime Rib @ $35.00 per head, and based on a

one ticket.
ELTON CHATFIELD passed around some "Pledge Sheets" for next year. I think I
lost mine, and he also had some committee assignments. ELTON also appointed some
chairmen.
JOEL BEEZY reported that the club had made about $2600.00 from the Concerts
Under the Stars, and it did not cost us anything. Good Job Joel!!
There were several opportunities to add to the general fund, but The Wimp dropped
the ball again, and the pot was as dry as a bone. Maybe she is going to make it up in the
next seven weeks?? Methinks the felons who stole her Bell and Gavel had better fess up
and start doing their penance to the Prez., or she may vent her wrath in a fashion not seen
heretofore in this regime.
As stated above, MARK BECK, a former member, was the speaker, and he told about his
Cross-country bicycle trip, which started out with his rear tire in the Pacific Ocean in
Hermosa Beach in April, and ended up in Massachusetts some 47 days and 3600 miles
later. Along the way, Mark suffered numerous spills, accidents and injuries, which did
require medical attention, but Mark was riding riding for something other than his own
health. He is and was helping to fight Multiple Sclerosis. Mark has been riding for
20 years raising funds for MIS, and over the years, he has raised about $50,000.00 in
his quest to help those afflicted with M.S. -But- he made one statement that I do not
believe is true-----He said before he started riding his bike, he looked like ELTON. I
know that Elton has worked hard to get in his shape-but it was pleasurable, and I do
not remember Mark ever having such a shape.
