SOUTH HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN 8/5/10
The meeting was opened with HARRY ANDERSON leading the singing of
"AMERICA". JACK FIELDING led the Pledge to the Flag, and ELTON
CHATFIELD gave the invocation. TEX WILLIAMS' THOUGHT
God
put us on this earth for a purpose-to do his work. We have
a mission to bless some of the people we meet, but real generosity
is doing something nice for someone who'll never find out.

FINANCIAL SESSION: FIRST OFF - WIMPY started the bidding of the FINE FREE
BADGE at $5.00- you start cheap and you get cheap bids-that is simple Mule Trading.
You need to start high to get those cheap skates thinking high. It (Mr. Fine Free) almost
went for $15.00, until yours truly said $20.00, but then Dr. TANAKA, who came in late,
and has a birthday in August, paid a meager $30.00, and won that Red Badge of Courage. So, DOCTOR "T" got a bargain. JOYCE CHAPMAN gave a check for $6.00, and then
won the pot and $10.00, and donated that back as well.
JOEL BEEZY was early for next week's meeting, and got off without a fine or lunch
ticket. ELTON CHATFIELD and MARGARET have been married 32 years, and Dr.
BOW WOW paid $32/00 for those blissful years. KEN and MONTY MILLER have
been married for 63 years, and KEN showed his appreciation by paying $40.00 for
those wonderful years.
PREZ - NO BELL - NO GAVEL- FORD auctioned off a bag of surprises, and ANITA
WHITE paid $22.00, and I didn't get to see what kind of a pig in a poke she got.
ELTON CHATFIELD was the program, and he gave a report on the KIWANIS
INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION held in Las Vegas. This is the 4th Convention
that ELTON has attended, and he said it was very well organized, and he was very
impressed with the hi-tech electronics they had. There were about 10,000 members
of Kiwanis in attendance. Jerry Mathers (Leave it to Beaver) was a speaker, and
JAY LENO entertained the group for about an hour and a half, and COLIN POWELL
was a key- note speaker. ELTON was also impressed with the Cirque du Soleil (sp).
ELTON says to keep your "I's" on membership, that is: Invite, Inform, Induct and
Involve new members and prospects. Thank you Elton- Good Report -and - he
said that the major fund raisers next year will be to buy hearing aids for some of the
old codgers who are going deaf. The speakers just have to be taught how to use a
microphone. Lessons form on the right. Next Year - the International Convention
is going to be held in Switzerland.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
