News for Jan. 2007

The Club had a fabulous holiday season. The annual assistance to Ernie Altvater and Santa Claus, Inc. had members assembling 50 red wagons to be distributed to poor families in the San Gabriel Valley (see photos here). Approximately 250 children benefit annually from this project, which brings joy into their homes. The Club had a large turnout for this event. On Saturday December 2nd, President Joel Beezy and Cookie Ford represented Kiwanis in the annual Christmas parade in downtown Covina , being driven in a 1956 Ford Thunderbird. Cookie Ford's husband, Don, was nice enough to drive the car, with Joel's wife, Janet, joining them. The parade had a huge turnout and Kiwanis was mentioned three times during the course of the route.

On December 18th and 20th the Club sponsored holiday parties at two Covina Unified School District High Schools benefiting underprivileged youth and providing gifts for toddlers. At these parties the children dined on pizza and had dessert. In the holiday spirit, the Donald Sterling Foundation has donated tickets to 100 of the Club's Key Club students to attend a Los Angeles Clippers basketball game on December 13th. The Foundation gave each Key Clubber a Clipper T shirt. In addition, L.A. Clippers Basketball will honor Kiwanis Clubs and their Members on Tuesday night, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. (tip-off) at Staples Center .
